We will begin exploring technique and then isolate each hand while playing through examples to help you internalize the rhythms. After getting through this sequence we will put all of the pieces together. This lesson pack includes the Ten Quintessential Bacalhau Patterns for zabumba. This pack also includes a FREE history lesson of “What is Forró Music?”

Lesson 1) In this lesson we will discuss the technique for holding the bacalhau (left hand switch). The Ten Quintessential Bacalhau Patterns for forró/baião music is covered in this video at three different tempos. This lesson only coveres the left hand bacalhau parts.
Lesson 2) This lesson will cover the basic forró and baião patterns for the right hand (mallet). The mallet plays the low tuned side of the zabumba and is the heartbeat of the forró/baião rhythms.
Lesson 3) This lesson brings it all together with the Baião rhythm. Now you have both hands playing together. These 10 examples utilize the left hand bacalhau parts while playing the baião rhythm in the right hand.
Lesson 4) This lesson brings it all together with the Forró rhythm. Now you have both hands playing together. These 10 examples utilize the left hand bacalhau parts while playing the forró rhythm in the right hand.
